Governance reforms in Nepal faced ongoing challenges, particularly in addressing data gaps for SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). The 2024 Asia and Pacific SDG Progress Report highlighted insufficient data, with only 133 of 231 indicators having adequate information and significant gaps in monitoring SDG 16. By 2020, Nepal had data for only 17 of the 32 adopted indicators for SDG 16. To address these issues, UNDP Nepal, in collaboration with UN Women and the Government of Nepal, conducted the Trust in Governance and Participation in Decision-Making in Nepal study. The study will assess public perceptions of transparency, accountability, service delivery, safety, and inclusiveness across all levels of governance. It aims to generate data to inform governance reforms, support SDG monitoring, and establish a baseline for the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023–2027), focusing on public trust, satisfaction with services, and social inclusion.
