In Nepal, political polarization and instability have served to further expose the vulnerability of the information environment to manipulation – especially during electoral periods. If left unchecked, disinformation and hate speech, especially when cultivated by malign external influences, can serve to further erode democracy practices and traditions. Through this program, it aimed to increase stakeholder awareness and capacities to understand and counter disinformation and hate speech.

The Rapid Assessment was focused on identifying gender norms and other political and social cleavages that are particularly susceptible to hate speech, dis/misinformation, and other harmful forms of online manipulation targeting women candidates and candidates from marginalized communities during electoral periods.
